Tour Description

Imagine a country full of ancient and modern history, saturated with beautiful religious monuments, teeming with wildlife, and lush with rice fields, grasslands, and rivers. This is probably not how most people think of Cambodia, but after travelling through the country on this 13-day tour, your opinion is likely to change.

Day 1 – Arrival in Phnom Penh -Upon arrival in Phnom Penh, you will be welcomed by your guide, who will accompany you to your hotel for check in. Enjoy an atmospheric sunset river cruise and watch how Phnom Penh’s popular riverfront awakens to life, followed by a delicious Khmer welcome dinner at Romdeng, a lovely charity restaurant where former street children are taught the principles of hospitality. (D)

Day 2 – Phnom Penh – This morning, you will be greeted by a driver who will take you on a tour to the most remarkable sights of Phnom Penh in a Cyclo. First, visit Wat Phnom, continue to the Royal Palace. Later today visit Tuol Sleng  Genocide Museum, if you are interested, continue to visit the Russian Market before enjoying the evening at leisure. (B)

Day 3 – Phnom Penh to Kampong Cham and onwards to Kratie – Leave Phnom Penh for Kampong Cham and after a tour of town centre, continue to Wat Nokor, an 11th century Angkor era Buddhist temple. Continue to Kratie Province where you will check into the hotel on Koh Trong Island. (B)

Day 4 – Kratie – After breakfast at the hotel drive north to the village of Kampi. Get on board a local boat that will take you to the preferred habitats of the Irrawaddy Dolphins, and from here, continue towards the village Sambo for a visit of Wat Sorsor Mouy Roy and enjoy a delicious lunch on the grounds. This afternoon, return to the island of Koh Trong. (B, L)

Day 5 – Kratie to Kampong Thom – After breakfast, leave Kratie for Kampong Thom Province On the way, stop at Phnom
Santuk Mountain and climb the 980 steps to the top to visit the pagoda and for the great views over the countryside. Upon arrival in Kampong Thom, check into your hotel and enjoy a leisurely afternoon. (B)

Day 6 – Kampong Thom to Siem Reap – Today, you head towards the rarely visited Sambor Prei Kuk.  Sambor Prei Kuk was built in the Chenla period between the 6th and 7th century and there are over 100 well preserved temples scattered in the forest. Continue towards Siem Reap and on arrival, check in to the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at leisure. (B, L)

Day 7 – Siem Reap – Get up early for one of the highlights of your tour through Cambodia: Visit Angkor Wat by sunrise. Enjoy breakfast at Angkor Café just across from Angkor Wat, before you visit the temple in depth. Visit the Angkor Silk Farm 15 km west of Siem Reap, where you can witness the entire process of silk creation before returning to Siem Reap for a mid-day break. Late afternoon, explore the Ta Prohm temple before enjoying the night at leisure. (B)

Day 8 – Siem Reap – This morning, visit to the ancient city of Angkor Thom then from here, continue to Bayon Temple in the exact centre of the city. Later today, head the banks of the giant Tonlé Sap Lake, board a local boat and visit Kampong Phluck, a village where we’ll see houses on stilts that are submerged when Tonlé Sap Lake extends. (B)

Day 9 – Siem Reap – After breakfast, you will be transferred to quiet Beng Mealea,  Undiscovered for centuries, Beng Mealea has only recently been made accessible and remains as it was found with no restoration work having been done. After your s exploration, enjoy a delicious packed lunch at a local house close to the temple site. From here, travel to the temple of Banteay Srei. On the way back, you will have the possibility to stop at local communities along the way and your guide will help you to interact with the local population to learn about the way of life here. (B, L)

Day 10 – Siem Reap to Battambang – After breakfast be taken from Siem Reap to Battambang by a comfortable private boat on Tonle Sap Lake and arrive in Cambodia’s second largest city, Battambang. on arrival you check into your hotel and enjoy the afternoon at leisure. (B, L)

Day 11 – Battambang – You will first head towards Phnom Sampeau  which is home to the notorious killing caves, a cruel reminder of Cambodia’s troubled past. Then, one of the highlights and a unique experience a fun ride on the famous Bamboo Train, an original means of transportation on the old train tracks. Your guide will lead you through local villages and farms on the way to Wat Banan and late in the afternoon you will be taken to some of the many cultural villages around Battambang, (B)

Day 12 – Battambang to Phnom Penh – Depart from Battambang in the morning and travel to Kampong Chhnang, known for its traditional pottery, before continuing to Oudong, the former royal capital of Cambodia. Then, climb the stairs to the top of Oudong Mountain and enjoy magnificent views over the plains below. On the way to Phnom Penh, visit Koh Chen, an island in the Tonlé Sap River, Koh Chen is known as the ‘Silver Village’ for its production of silver crafts and jewellery. From here, it is not far to Phnom Penh where you will reach mid- afternoon and as this is your last evening in Cambodia, an authentic farewell dinner will be celebrated at Malis, a renowned place for Khmer food in Phnom Penh and provides for fine dining in chic surroundings. Day 13 – Phnom Penh – Enjoy today at leisure until it is time for your transfer to Phnom Penh International Airport for your individual departure. (B)
