Kyoto - Touring Options

Kyoto Uncovered 4 Days / 3 Nights

Uncover the beauty of Kyoto, otherwise known as the cultural capital of Japan and revel amongst its abundance of mesmerizing world heritage sites as well as its staggering 2000 shrines and temples.

Day 1 – Arrive in Kyoto – On arrival at Kansai International Airport you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel by shuttle bus. Enjoy the day at your leisure.

Day 2 – Kyoto -You will start your day with a visit to Nijo Castle. This ornamental castle was built by the founder of the Edo Shogunate as his Kyoto residence and is surrounded by stunning gardens. Continue on to Kinkakuji, the Golden Pavilion. Originally built as a retirement villa for the Shogun, after his death it became a Buddhist Temple at his request, and is now one of Kyoto’s most famous temples. The final stop of the morning is Daitoku-ji Zen temple complex, which consists of a main temple and 22 sub-temples, and after lunch we have a special cooking experience for you. Walk the mile-long Nishiki covered food markets, after visiting the markets, you’ll travel through the back streets and lanes of Kyoto, visit to former sake brewery for the tour of the house for sake tasting, then finally to a traditional wooden townhouse for your Japanese cooking class. After the meal the evening is free for you to explore Kyoto, or your local guide can assist you in returning to your hotel. (B&D)

Day 3 – Kyoto / Nara – This morning you will make the short 45min trip by train to Nara with your local guide. First stop is Todaiji Temple, the worlds largest wooden building and home to Japan’s largest Buddha, followed by Kasuga Taisha, Nara’s most celebrated shrine. You will also have the opportunity to wander through Nara Park, called Deer Park by locals due to the large population of tame deer living there. After lunch, return to Kyoto and visit Kiyomizu ( Pure Water ) Temple. From the 13m high veranda jutting out from the Main Hall you can enjoy amazing views of the whole of Kyoto, whilst pondering the fact that both the Main Hall and Veranda were built without the use of nails or any kind of joiners. Finish off the day with a stroll through the Higashiyama district, whose busy lanes lead up to Kiyomizu and are filled with quaint shops selling souvenirs. (B)

Day 4 – Depart Kyoto -Today is free until your included transfer to the airport by shuttle bus for your departure flight. (B)

The Culture of Skiiing – 11 Days / 10 Nights

Day 1 – Arrival in Kyoto – Arrive at Kansai International Airport where you will be welcomed by our airport representative who will assist you with the transfer by shuttle bus to your hotel (1.5hr). The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 2 – Kyoto -Explore the former imperial capital with a learned local guide utilizing the comprehensive bus system to some of Kyoto’s World Heritage Sites. Start the day with a visit to Nijo Castle, this ornamental castle was built by the founder of the Edo Shogunate as his Kyoto residence and is surrounded by stunning surrounding gardens. Continue to Kinkakuji, the Golden Pavilliion. Built as a retirement villa for the Shogun, after his death it became a Buddhist Temple, and now is one of Kyotos most famous temples. The final stop of the morning is Daitoku-ji Zen temple complex before lunch. After lunch there is a very special cooking experience in store whereby you will walk the mile-long Nishiki covered food markets,  as you help your guide buy the ingredients for your Japanese cooking class. After visiting the markets, you’ll travel through the back streets and lanes of Kyoto, visit to former sake brewery for the tour of the house with sake tasting, and then finally to a traditional wooden townhouse for your Japanese cooking class. Day 4 – Kyoto to Niseko – Today make your way back to Kansai Airport for your flight to New-Chitose airport in Hokkaido where you will be met by our airport representative who will assisit you in transferring by shuttle bus to your hotel. Today is the first day of your included 7 day ski pass and you can get to the slopes as soon as you arrive. Your ski pass is valid for the wider area of the 4 main resorts of Niseko, all based around the Annapuri Mountain and Niseko is suited to all types of skiers and boarders. (B)

Day 5 – 10 Niseko For the next six days you will have the pleasure of discovering not only the slopes but should you choose, the surrounding area, all at your pace. If you are looking to take a break from the slopes, a daytrip to Sapporo is also possible. Sapporo is Japan’s fourth biggest city and Hokkaido’s largest urban centre. The Sapporo Winter Sports Museum, built around the ski jump stadium used for the 1772 Winter Olympics is a great spor tot explore. The museum features a ski jump simulator where you can try your jumping skills and has a cable car ride up the actual ski jump! (B)

Day 11 – Departure -Time to leave the powder of Niseko behind and head for New Chitose Airport on your included return bus transfer. (B)
